Heritage Landscapes vol.62

Heritage Landscapes is the Promemoria Group newsletter created to observe the contemporary heritage landscape. Twice a month we share the most interesting news and the most innovative projects, investigating those archival stories that turn an object, a brand or an insight, into a legend.

Between architecture, design, fashion, food, technology. With no limit to our curiosity.

1. The Long View

Movie Scene Map
But where was that movie you love so much filmed? Now you can find out right from a map. Movie Scene Map is a free, interactive platform that lets you explore the real-life locations of movies and TV shows, created by the developer Flightmussy. Just search for a production’s title or a city’s name to see the filming locations on a world map.

The site primarily uses data from Wikidata, the database linked to Wikipedia, and as of August 2026, it also incorporates two new sources: the “Filming” section of Wikipedia pages dedicated to individual productions and pages related to the locations where filming took place. The sources are kept separate, and each entry indicates its source.

The database now includes over 18,600 locations in 171 countries, linked to more than 10,500 films and TV series, as well as hundreds of anime and manga. It’s a simple way to turn watching a movie into a mini-journey to discover the places where it was filmed.

2. Augmented Craft

Inside A Genius Mind
What if artificial intelligence could help us discover new connections within an archive? That’s exactly what “Leonardo: Inside A Genius Mind” does—an experiment by Google Arts & Culture that uses machine learning to explore over 718 pages and 3,000 drawings from Leonardo’s manuscripts. The technology connects materials from different volumes and disciplines, revealing unexpected similarities. A new way to approach archival research, enriching it and revealing connections that would otherwise be difficult to discern.

3. Seen & Noted

Archives for (R)esistance
Fifty years after the coup d’état that ushered in Argentina’s last military dictatorship, *Darkness Visible: The Long Shadow of Dictatorship* reflects on the role of archives in the construction of collective memory. Curated by Victoria Noorthoorn and Patricio Orellana, in collaboration with Augusto Maurandi, the exhibition brings together nineteen artists and collectives at Spazio Punch in Venice. Through works addressing state violence, censorship, and forced disappearances, the exhibition demonstrates how documents, testimonies, and artistic practices can transform the archive into a tool for resistance and memory.

“In ARCHIVIO No. 11—The Tech Issue, every archive becomes a space for critical reflection. It is not just about reading the machines, but about deciphering the visions, hopes, and social structures from which they emerged, transforming the history of technology into a story that belongs to all of us.”
