Heritage Landscapes vol.60

Heritage Landscapes is the Promemoria Group newsletter created to observe the contemporary heritage landscape. Twice a month we share the most interesting news and the most innovative projects, investigating those archival stories that turn an object, a brand or an insight, into a legend.

Between architecture, design, fashion, food, technology. With no limit to our curiosity.

1. The Long View

The History of Technology on a Map
How can we tell the story of thousands of years of innovation without limiting ourselves to a simple timeline? This is the challenge taken on by Étienne Fortier-Dubois with The Historical Tech Tree, a project that visualizes the evolution of technologies, inventions, and major discoveries, from prehistory to the present day.

What makes this initiative unique is its focus on the relationships between different innovations: each technology is linked to its predecessors, influences, and improvements that made its development possible. The result is a true network of knowledge that allows users to discover unexpected connections and better understand the complexity of technological progress.

Launched in 2025, the project already includes approximately 1,750 technologies and over 2,000 connections, all cataloged manually, and is now open to contributions from the community to continue expanding this extraordinary digital archive of the history of innovation—a history that has allowed us to be here today, reading a newsletter on our screens.

2. Augmented Craft

MRI of the Earth
What would an MRI scan of the Earth look like? That is the question that inspired “MRI of the Earth,” a work by multimedia artist Refik Anadol, created in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture Lab. Using artificial intelligence algorithms and processing over 200 million images of the planet, the project transforms climate data, temperatures, CO₂ levels, and extreme weather events into an immersive visualization. It’s an example of how digital archives and AI can give shape to new visual languages, making complex issues like climate change more accessible to everyone.

Festivaletteratura: Thirty Years of Stories, Told in Podcasts
Once a year in Italy, poets, writers, intellectuals, and literature enthusiasts gather to discuss their greatest passion—literature—against the stunning backdrop of Mantua.
From the festival’s digital archive comes In trent’anni (In Thirty Years), a podcast produced by Festivaletteratura and written by Nicolò Porcelluzzi. Four episodes that explore what it means to talk about literature today, how the literary canon has changed, and the relationship between young people and reading. A journey through thirty years of voices and stories, made possible thanks to the support of MyNet. A highly successful example of how our technology can become a shared memory: enjoy the podcast!

“The archive is the tool that protects a company’s most important asset and provides strategies for business development.
Legend helps companies recognize the archive as a tool for preserving a brand’s know-how.”

Promemoria Group

Since 2011, Promemoria Group has been the leading authority in the world of heritage, historical archives, and their valorization. We recover, preserve, and organize the history of over 250 major companies and institutions, while also storytelling and unlocking its value in every way possible. We are humanists with a passion for science and scientists with a humanistic spirit: a strategic partner that transforms heritage into a living asset, bridging roots and vision, past and future.

Our uniqueness lies in the integration of three dimensions: consulting, methodology, and a digital platform. We work alongside top management to define heritage strategies aligned with business objectives, translating the analysis of historical assets into guidelines, governance models, and concrete paths for valorization. Our proprietary method, Memories, combines scientific rigor, cultural vision, and organizational capacity, structuring complex tangible and intangible assets in a solid, orderly, and scalable way. Simultaneously, our digital platform ARCHIVIO.COM makes archives accessible, searchable, and strategically usable, transforming memory into an operational tool for communication, marketing, innovation, and decision-making.

ARCHIVIO, Archivissima, and Legend are the ways Promemoria Group valorizes heritage, showcasing the extraordinary content of archives through a contemporary lens—whether through a magazine that changes its editorial team every four issues, a national festival with a format unique in Europe, or a B2B event that explores how a brand can transcend time and become a legend.
