Heritage Landscapes vol.58

Heritage Landscapes is the Promemoria Group newsletter created to observe the contemporary heritage landscape. Twice a month we share the most interesting news and the most innovative projects, investigating those archival stories that turn an object, a brand or an insight, into a legend.

Between architecture, design, fashion, food, technology. With no limit to our curiosity.

1. The Long View

The Charm of a Well-Worn Notebook
What can an old school notebook tell us? Much more than you might imagine. The Exercise Book Archive is a participatory archive that collects and preserves notebooks, diaries, and letters written by children and young people from the late 18th century to the early 2000s.

With hundreds of documents from over 30 countries, the project offers a unique glimpse into daily life, education, and the experience of childhood across the ages. Managed by the Milan-based association Quaderni Aperti, the archive grows thanks to the contributions of those who choose to donate materials or help with their transcription and translation.

Through digitization efforts, exhibitions, seminars, and outreach initiatives, these testimonies are brought back to life, becoming a valuable tool not only for understanding the past but also for stimulating contemporary reflection on educational models and the relationship between adults and children, opening the debate to contributions from teachers, educators, pedagogues, and historians, as well as artists, writers, intellectuals, and interested citizens.

2. Augmented Craft

Your Name In Landsat

For over fifty years, the Landsat program of NASA and the USGS has been documenting changes to the Earth’s surface, creating the largest continuous archive of images of our planet. To celebrate Earth Day 2026, the project launched “Your Name in Landsat,” a generator that transforms names and words into compositions created using real satellite images of rivers, lakes, farmland, and other landscapes viewed from space. It’s a creative way to explore a unique treasure trove of data that chronicles how the Earth’s surface has changed over time.

3. Seen & Noted

A Major Exhibition for Arnaldo Pomodoro’s Centennial
For the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation, 2026 is a year of celebrations: exhibitions, research projects, and cultural events mark the centennial of the artist’s birth. Among the main events is the retrospective *Arnaldo Pomodoro: A Life*, on view at the Gallerie d’Italia in Milan through October 18, curated by Luca Massimo Barbero and Federico Giani.
For the occasion, the Foundation has digitized and made available for free in its online archive the entire photographic documentation of the sculptures, offering insight into the technical and creative process that precedes the finished work. In addition, the registration of the Catalogue Raisonné on the blockchain has begun to ensure data integrity and due diligence, using SwissLedger, the public blockchain promoted by the city of Lugano: this marks the first application of this technology to the protection and promotion of contemporary art.

“When you acquire a company, you don’t just acquire the company—you acquire responsibility for that company. So that responsibility involves understanding where that company comes from, what its history is, and what its assets are. Physical assets, but also intangible assets: the brand, the positioning, and the culture of that company.”

- Gianluca Colonna, Chief Executive Officer of Rosenthal and Board Member of Arcturus

Since 2011, Promemoria Group has been the leading authority in the world of heritage, historical archives, and their valorization. We recover, preserve, and organize the history of over 250 major companies and institutions, while also storytelling and unlocking its value in every way possible. We are humanists with a passion for science and scientists with a humanistic spirit: a strategic partner that transforms heritage into a living asset, bridging roots and vision, past and future.

Our uniqueness lies in the integration of three dimensions: consulting, methodology, and a digital platform. We work alongside top management to define heritage strategies aligned with business objectives, translating the analysis of historical assets into guidelines, governance models, and concrete paths for valorization. Our proprietary method, Memories, combines scientific rigor, cultural vision, and organizational capacity, structuring complex tangible and intangible assets in a solid, orderly, and scalable way. Simultaneously, our digital platform ARCHIVIO.COM makes archives accessible, searchable, and strategically usable, transforming memory into an operational tool for communication, marketing, innovation, and decision-making.

ARCHIVIO, Archivissima, and Legend are the ways Promemoria Group valorizes heritage, showcasing the extraordinary content of archives through a contemporary lens—whether through a magazine that changes its editorial team every four issues, a national festival with a format unique in Europe, or a B2B event that explores how a brand can transcend time and become a legend.
