Archiui was chosen by the “Fondazione 1563 per l’Arte e la Cultura”, a Compagnia di San Paolo foundation, for its Digital Archives and Collections (DAC) project.
Promemoria, in partnership with the Compagnia di San Paolo’s historical archive, saw to the migration and publication of the records held in its old cataloguing systems on a new central database, enhanced and managed by Archiui.
From one cataloguing system, two new portals were created: one for the archive as a whole, and another for the digital photo library, featuring over 13,500 photographs tracing the history of the Istituto Bancario San Paolo di Torino and its banking, philanthropic, publishing, and cultural work. Added to which are papal bulls, wills, legacies, deeds of bequest, genealogical trees, orders, balance sheets (1563–1853), and more than 4500 volumes and folders — over 200,000 items for visitors to explore.
In 2016, with a view to leveraging the potential of the archive further, the Fondazione 1563 called on Promemoria again for the Punctum project, where ten contemporary artists — Guglielmo Castelli, Lia Cecchin, Christian Fogarolli, Silvia Margaria, Aurora Paolillo, Pietro Paolini, Valentina Perazzini, Lavinia Raccanello, Caterina Erica Shanta, and Cosimo Veneziano — worked on the photographic collections from the end of the 1800s to the 1960s to create ten original works capturing major themes in banking history (Lombard banking, employment, war, reconstruction, supervision) and archive history (testimony, oblivion, remembrance). The final exhibition was held in the Bioclimatic Greenhouse on the 36th floor of the Intesa Sanpaolo Skyscraper in Turin, attracting over 7000 visitors.
